Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP) 2025 Intake to Begin Late July

The long-awaited 2025 intake for Canada’s Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP) is officially set to begin later this month. Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will begin issuing invitations to apply (ITAs) to potential sponsors starting July 28, 2025, over a period of approximately two weeks.

Key Highlights:

  • Total applications to be accepted: Up to 10,000 complete applications will be accepted under the 2025 intake.
  • Invitation method: IRCC will not open a new interest to sponsor form this year. Instead, it will issue invitations to individuals who previously submitted an interest to sponsor form in 2020 and who have not yet been invited.

What Should Potential Sponsors Do?
If you submitted an interest to sponsor form in 2020 and have not yet received an invitation, we strongly encourage you to:

  • Check the email account you used in your 2020 submission regularly, including junk and spam folders.
  • Be prepared to act quickly if invited, as application deadlines are strict and extensions are rarely granted.

Invited applicants will be able to submit their applications electronically through:

  • The Permanent Residence Portal, or
  • The Representative Permanent Residence Portal (if you are using the services of an authorized representative).

Looking Ahead
As the PGP remains highly competitive due to the limited number of applications accepted each year, planning ahead is essential. We recommend:

  • Ensuring your documents are in order in case you receive an invitation, and
  • Consulting with a qualified immigration professional for support in preparing a complete and accurate application.
