What is the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP)?

The Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP), formerly the Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program, is an economic immigration program that nominates people for permanent residence in Alberta. Nominees must have skills to fill job shortages or be planning to buy or start a business in Alberta. They must also be able to provide for their families. The program is run by the governments of Alberta and Canada.

If you are nominated through the program, you may apply for permanent residence status together with your spouse or common-law partner, and dependent children.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) manages applications for permanent residence. The federal government also makes final decisions on these applications.

At Axis Immigration, our professional immigration consultancy in Edmonton can help you with everything from eligibility requirements, application process and supporting documents to apply for the AAIP. For more information, please contact us or give us a call at 780-200-2755.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I apply for the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program without a job offer letter?

Absolutely, it is possible. If you are a foreign national and you wish to reside and work in Alberta, you have the opportunity to apply through either the Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP) or the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP). Among the different channels available under the AINP or AAIP, the Express Entry stream in Alberta does not necessitate applicants to possess a job offer. In order to receive a Notification of Interest (NOI) from Alberta through this particular stream, applicants must establish an Express Entry profile and express their desire to settle in Alberta on a permanent basis.

What is the processing time for the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program?

The processing time for AAIP applications can vary and is influenced by several factors. These factors include labor market conditions, the number of applications received, and the date of submission. Once an applicant meets the eligibility criteria and receives approval from Alberta authorities, they will be issued a certificate of nomination. The overall timeline for the entire process typically ranges from 4 to 6 months, although this timeframe may differ from one individual’s profile to another.
